This Is My Baby.
They’re all my babies, but this one is *our* baby – the baby of the family. She melts us. All of us. Every day. And, so although she gets more love than she can hardly handle, she experiences more compromise than any of my older children. After all, she was welcomed with 3 older siblings who also need my time, love, and undivided attention (that last part is meant to be funny for all of you other moms reading this!)
That being said, I am unashamed in debuting Arden’s one-year old milestone photos just two days before her second birthday!
I Had The Best Of Intentions – Promise!
Although, I am sincerely unashamed at waiting until nearly her 2nd birthday, I did not plan it this way. In fact, I actually purchased her adorable polka dot romper in 2015! And, I knew I had to include her favorite Pineapple shoes – I was just praying her little feet didn’t grow overnight! (Arden calls them “my apples” and I never want to forget those “apples”!) Her hair grew so fast this year… that part is a little bittersweet, but it is all part of her story – our story – this year. She became a big girl.
Life is crazy with four kiddos, and her milestone birthday session continued to take a back seat to the day-to-day tasks. Before I knew it, we were back to August. This session immediately went to the top of my to-do! But, I soon found out her romper no longer fit! After a small panic, I found out about “bodysuit” extenders (who knew?!) It saved the day! I also ordered her fab balloon & tassel with expedited shipping – it arrived on time & beautiful (it’s so pretty, right?!) Well… I then drove the balloon across the county (literally) to get it filled with “hi-low” helium to ensure it didn’t droop for her pictures the next morning. I managed to sneak it back into the house, and kept it hidden from all of my kiddos for the night… success. But, not for long. Just as I was about to walk out the door the next morning, for the session that I waited 11 1/2 months for, I heard the dreaded “POP“!!!!!!! I’m not going to name names, but a little tiger-boy (with a super cute dimple that keeps him out trouble a lot) found the hidden balloon and within seconds managed to tear through the house and pop it! So much for “don’t cry over spilled milk”… I totally cried over a popped balloon!
I might have waited until the last minute, and be partly to blame for not leaving any time for a plan-b, but I was not going to miss capturing her at one! I dried my eyes, and I got so lucky to find a large pink balloon in the bottom of my birthday supply storage! The day was saved, yet again.
It occurred to me that I might actually look back on these images and remember the “crazy” in our lives at this time. Recall the hectic days of motherhood when I had no minutes to spare. Reminisce at how well I got at “winging it”. I like to think that it all might just make me smile. I really like to think that it might make them smile too. Even more than the crazy, we have love. We have lots and lots of love.
Birthday Photo Sessions Are Always A Blast!
Since she was doing so well during the photos, I ventured out of my comfort zone and tried a new photography technique that I’ve been so curious about in the past. It’s a technique called “freelensing”. This is an actual thing… and I was so happy to find it! I have always had a strange fascination for images that are slightly out of focus or blurred in a mysterious way. Occassionally, people look at me oddly when I confess that I like blur in photos – not every photo, but there are times that it works for me. I gave my first “freelensing” a try after I was sure I captured Arden more traditionally. I certainly haven’t mastered freelensing, but it was so exciting for me to explore the art I love in a brand new way. I’m including it here not because it is my favorite image, but because I tried something new (and kind of scary). And, because I’d love your feedback!
Love celebrating you at every milestone, baby girl! We look forward to welcoming the terrific-twos with you very, very soon!
